This is our little horseback riding expedition at the Circle H Stables near Cooper's Rock.   The weather did not cooperate with us very well - it was kind of rainy, and it's always colder up on the mountain.  But Michelle had signed us up for a one hour trail ride, and the girls were not about to miss the opportunity to ride, since it doesn't happen very often!
jamie on sandman.jpg (21460 bytes) This is Michelle's friend, Jamie.  She was the first one up, on Sandman. This was her first horseback riding experience.  She was a little nervous when she first got on, but she settled into it really well.
Here's Jamie (in the background) with another friend, Julie.  Julie was on Shadow, and this was also her first time on a horse.  She forgot to bring a jacket, but Tony lent her his sweatshirt, and he borrowed a jacket from the stable.  jamie and julie.jpg (22884 bytes)
tony on fred.jpg (17533 bytes) Tony's riding Fred, a big draft horse.  He started out on the smallest horse, Rico, but they couldn't get the stirrups adjusted for him, so he ended up on Fred.  He liked the ride OK, but was kind of cold and didn't like the way Fred "bumped" when he trotted.
Michelle ended up on Rico.  He was rather persistent about trying to eat grass along the way and we had to stop once for his bridle to be adjusted.  But Michelle managed him pretty well, even holding him up to let the others get ahead and trotting to catch up. michelle on rico.jpg (25089 bytes)
lady slippers.jpg (15333 bytes) It was a nice ride through the woods, and we saw some pretty Lady Slippers along the way.  The halfway point was a meadow, which we took two turns around at a trot, then headed back.  On the way back we even got to canter a bit, though Fred and my horse, King, were pretty reluctant to break out of a trot.
Even though we got cold and wet, it was a lot of fun, and hopefully we'll all get to do it again soon. tony on the trail.jpg (10801 bytes)
